Gender Reveal Party

We decided to have a Gender Reveal Party to announce the gender of our little one. I didn't want to go crazy since funds when expecting a baby are low, so I took the simple route.

I found free printables on bhg.com to make the all the labels and the decorations, and then made the party at 2pm to keep the food to a snack minimum... :)

Everyone marked their guesses and took a ribbon to wear...

Homemade lemonades made from store bought lemonades and pureed fruits put into pretty bottles...

Cupcakes made with store bought cake mix and homemade buttercream...filled with a surprise!

My cravings bar filled with candies, pickles, rice krispie treats, popcorn, and fig and goat cheese bruschetta...

The pregnant girls...all of us are due within one month of each other! :)

...and for the big reveal everyone bit into their cupcakes to find them filled with pink raspberry buttercream!

Blessings Galore!

So it has been many months since my last post, and since then we have been so incredibly blessed I don't know where to begin!

First...I graduated from nursing school (thank heavens!) and soon after was awarded a new RN job at Phoenix Children's Hospital! I have loved every minute, learned something new every day, and met some of the most amazing people. There is never a dull moment, but I can't believe how lucky I am to be working for such an amazing place!

Second...we found out this last fall that we are expecting our first little on in June! My pregnancy has been (so lucky to be saying this...) uneventful. Only a few weeks of nausea, and now just hungry all the time. :) I highly enjoyed being so hungry over the holidays.

Our first glimpse of our little one came at 9 weeks...

Then, we were lucky enough to get a second look at our healthy little "Darrie", as my Step-Dad has nick- named the baby, at 12 weeks...

We have been chronicling my ever growing belly, I listed the pictures below, and we are so excited to be going in for our 18week appt. and ultrasound tomorrow to find out officially what we are having! :)

Next up...our 17-18 week belly update and our gender reveal party! :)

July 4th, 2010 was spent in Coronado, just like almost every other year of my life. We cannot get enough of this place, and felt so blessed to share the time with my family. Although it was chilly the last couple day's, and the fireworks were kind of a dud, we had the greatest time!

Ok, so I have been so incredibly MIA due to the immense challenge of block 2 nursing school at CGCC. Unlike most MCC we somehow had the short end of the stick and found this to be extremely challenging. I lost some close friends, and am a little nervous to go back in the Fall, but I do feel blessed to have made it through and onto block 3...the fun part (Ped's and OB). I also feel so lucky to have been chosen for an Extern position in OB at Mercy. I heard that they received 200+ applications, and although I will be working 12 hour night shifts, I am so thankful! My first night shift is tomorrow night, and I am not quite sure how to work this whole thing, so I decided to take advice from another night shift nurse, and stay up late the night before. Hence...the blog post, out of the blue, at 2am! :) Maybe I will get better at these blog posts with this new schedule!

Life as a Student Nurse...

So...life has been choo chooing along, all the while I spend my days in scrubs, and my evenings with books surrounding me. I have attempted to sit back and enjoy a few days here and there, but it does not always happen, and most of the time...it should not happen, because I have to remember that school is my main focus right now.
Clinicals have become more intense and now take up 12hours of my Thursday's and I spend about 95% of that time on my feet, so I have to say that I am looking forward to my massage scheduled for May 12th (my last day of block 2). :) I also have to mention that I had my first "I feel like I am going to faint" spell yesterday! I have never had it happen, definitely not that bad before, and I really don't know how it happended either. I have stood in on two full (blood splattering, bones being sawed off)...sorry for the graphics...surgeries, but I guess the intense male nurse violently trying to insert an IV in a patient, who no one else could get an IV in, really did me in. I started to feel slightly "off" and decided to head out to the hall. As soon as I sat down I had a HUGE hot flash, started sweating like no other, got nauseous, and began to walk quickly down the hall since someone was in the only bathroom on our floor. As I raced down the hall I was praying so hard that I would not hit the floor as I began to black out. Thankfully I made it to the bathroom and plopped down on the toilet with my head in my hands. I eventually started to come to, but MAN...it was not the most fun experience. I survived though and actually made myself lay on the couch that night and watch 3 full hours of tv! :)
So...my question to myself is why does it take an "almost" fainting spell to make myself relax one night out of the week? I will try harder for relaxation from now on...

The holiday's 2009-2010

SO strange to write 2010! Now that the holidays have flown by I figured I should post the pictures before we get too far into the New Year!
The holidays were amazing and completely wonderful, but they flew by! We spent Thanksgiving with my Mom and David's family...which was great to have the traditional turkey dinner followed by African food that night. Christmas Eve was spent at our house and became bigger than we expected once my Grandma got sick and my Brother, Sister Sarah, and her boyfriend Spencer ended up at our house with David's Mom and Aunt. Rather than one roast chicken I ended up with three! Everything turned out great though and we had the best time sitting around and talking! Christmas morning we headed to my Mom's where her entire living room floor was covered with gifts. She had 17 ppl. sitting around tearing into gifts for about an hour...it was pure craziness! After lunch we headed up to my Dad's where we were able to see my Grandma and Grandpa Owens, along with my cute-as-ever cousins Kiki and Grant.

ASU Game

We were lucky enough to be able to get ASU Football Season tickets this year with our friends the Minor's. This last game, on Halloween, we had a blast!! We started on Mill at 10am, ate some breakfast burrito's, had a beer and a mimosa :), rode around in an ASU golf cart, and then hung out with my Mom and Mark... :)

So, I have not posted in awhile, mainly due to the craziness of nursing school, but I wanted to share a quick update.

Well, nursing school has been overwhelming, but so much fun so far! I have loved every minute of it, and I cannot wait to start clinicals in a week! I have had quite a few exams, and skill tests to measure my ability to correctly administer oral med's, injections, put in a catheter, take vital signs, etc... (all on medical dummies) :), and I am so thankful that I have grasped all the concepts and done really well! Only 3.5 semesters left to go!! :)

David and I headed off to Vegas in Sept. with our friend Leo for a quick vacation! We had such an amazing time, and we even got to eat at one of my favorite restaurants from NY...Serendipity!

Wow...it is so hard to think that a year has already gone by, but I guess time flies when you are having fun right?! David and I have been together for 7 years now (known each other for 8) :), but I have to say that our first year of marriage was the best, and it just keeps getting better! I am one lucky girl to have such an amazing husband and I couldn't ask for anything more...

Day trip to Sedona...

I have been wanting to go camping all summer, but have not been able to convince David how much fun it can be since he has never been, so I decided to start small with a day trip. We headed up to Sedona and I had the smart idea of going to slide rock, but I failed to realize how crazy busy it get's! We had to wait in an hour long line just to enter the parking lot!! After we made it in we realized that the water was way too cold, so we mainly sat and watched everyone slip and slide all over the place. I really think that is why the call it slide rock and not because of the rock slides. :) After slide rock we went back into town and got some lunch, walked around some cute shop areas, and really just spent some quality time together. :)

I am thinking that I can blame this all on Todd, my good friend Ali's husband. We now have to deal with our Husband's being gone every weekend morning and some week day nights so they can go to the track. Well...since they love it so much Ali and I decided to try it out and we actually had a blast! :) This time out at the track they entered a team race, which is pretty much an 1.5 hour relay race...

Although they say it's only 80% Christy and Ryan were confident enough to announce they are having a boy!! :) David and I cannot wait for our new little nephew, Jackson, to arrive and Christy and I have already started the fun part of planning his new nursery. There are still 5 more months until he get's here, but he will keep us all busy planning in the meantime!

I can officially announce now that I have a new niece or nephew, or possibly one of each, or two of each :), on the way! My sister Christy and her Husband Ryan are expecting the first(s) and I could not be more excited!! She called today to tell me that she is measuring 6weeks bigger than she is expected to be, so hopefully tomorrow they will find out if there are multiple babies, which I have been telling her from the beginning, or that maybe she is just farther along than expected! :) Either way I will be sitting on the edge of my seat to find out, especially if they can also find out the gender, because I am so ansy to be able to start all of my baby crafts I have planned! :)

So besides being so lucky to be a Matron of Honor for Christy, as well as for one of my best friends Erin, I am also blessed to be a future Aunt! I have lots of planning ahead of me though (2 bridal showers, 2 bachelorette parties, and 1 baby shower), but all are great and amazing things!!

We headed out to Coronado Island for the 4th of July for our annual trip! We stayed at the Hotel Del and spent a lot of time with friends and family. We also had our traditional 4th of July...parade, beach, and then pizza and fireworks at the golf-course! :) We even re-visited the spot we were married...:)

We spent some time watching my Dad's house while he was out of town. It is so beautiful, but not super close to town, so we kind of felt like we were camping the whole time. We ended up having friends up one Saturday and they definitley helped to entertain us for the day! :) We all had a blast!

Nursing school here I come...

So...since I officially have accepted my "acceptance" (I know that sounds funny) into nursing school I thought I would post about how excited I am for the HUGE life change! I was in new home sales for five long years, which was an amazing job I have say, but I decided about a year ago that it was not really what I wanted to do the rest of my life. So...after some soul searching I finally found my new calling...nursing. I finished all my pre-req.'s while working full-time and planning our wedding (quite the ordeal), and was finally able to apply for the program in October. HOWEVER, the worst part was knowing that it could be up to 2 years before I got into the program due to the HUGE wait list. :( My next goal became getting a scholarship. After interviewing, and waiting patiently for a few months, I found out in March that I was awarded a full-ride scholarship from Catholic Healthcare and, as a result, was awarded acceptance into the CGCC fall nursing program. It has been a long road, and will continue to be a long road since I will be in school again for at least two years, but I could not be more excited!!! :)

My Mom and I hosted Christy and Ryans Engagement Party on May 2nd for 60 ppl.! It turned out so wonderful and the weather, which has been wavering between comfortable and hot, was perfect! The party was held outdoor's at my Mom and Mark's house and we served appetizers, Italian food, and dessert (cream puffs, tiramisu, and homemade cupcakes). We also served sangria, wine, and beers...along with non-alcoholic drinks :). Thank you to everyone who came and all those who helped out to make it such a fabulous evening! Congrat's Christy and Ryan...we can't wait for the big day!! :)

My, cute-as-ever, Husband had his big day this last week and we celebrated quite a few times, with quite a few people, but here are the pictures from his party with my side of the family! :) It was a banana theme, because he loves almost anything banana, so I made him a Banana Carmel cake, which I will be putting the recipe for up on my other blog, and my Mom gave him all sorts of cool foods made with banana. We also had his party at one of his favorite restaurants...Joe's BBQ in Gilbert! :)

Weekend Trip to California

David and I planned to take a quick "one-dayer" trip up to Big Bear to try out the new snowboards we had gotten, but since I officially have the weekends off :) we decided to make it into a romantic weekend for the two of us! We flew into San Diego instead of Ontario and stayed were able to stay on my Mom's boat. The first night we ate at Island Pasta and Moo Time Creamery, which has been a tradition for us since 1st visiting Coronado. The next morning we woke up quite early and took the agonizing 3 hour, twisting and winding, drive up to Big Bear. We had the greatest time snowboarding and we both LOVED our new boards, so it was definitley worth the 6 hours of driving on some of the scariest road ever! That rest of the weekend we did a lot of eating at our favorite places in Coronado, and actually were able to spend some time together...which has been rare for us the last few years... :)

Ashley and I visited one of our best girlfriends in CO for the weekend and had the most amazing time! I have never laughed so hard, for so long, in a very long time! We visited the New Belgium and Budweiser Breweries and spent a day hiking in the Rocky Mountain National Park, which is beautiful! We also had a few drinks along the way... :)

Jane Overstreet

May 23, 1916- February 2, 2009

It has taken me a long time to be able to write this due to the fact that my Great-Grandmother's passing was hard for me to take. I was with her when she passed away and I had become very close to her in the few years before hand.

She was one fabulous woman! :) Although she was 92 she was still living on her own and if it was not for my Grandma prying her beloved Buick keys from her hand she would have still been driving. She always had to look her best and was neatly dressed, was prefectly ironed, and accessorized to the "T" even while spending the day at the grocery store. She was always cracking joke and asking why she had to be in rehab, after her first broken hip, with so many old people and even after breaking her second hip a few weeks later, she refused to eat anything but chocolate cake! I guess she deserved to eat chocolate cake at that point! :) I would love visiting her for lunch and going through all of her photo albums from when she was young...she constantly amazed me when we would go through every picture and she would remember each person, even if they had not been someone close to her, and she was only 8-10 years old in some of the pictures! In my last few visits with her she would constantly say how great of a family she has, how she was so blessed that we are all so close, and I always was sure to remind her that it was all because of her! :)

After thinking about things I have come to be at peace with the fact that she was extremely blessed in life and in death and she made sure to pass a lot of her blessings onto her family... thank you Great-Grandma...we love you and miss you so much!

Our group ended up getting bigger and crazier as the days went on, and the stories of Martin the "guy from the shuttle" and Shad and Kelly "the craziest drunks we have ever encountered" make us laugh every time we think of them...

6 Quirky Things About Me:

1. I have a slight obsession with making everything in my home perfect...most likely because I work in model homes all day. I literally have to have magazines in perfect piles on my coffee table, candles burning, bows tied around my towels in my guest bath, etc...

2. For some reason I tend to make things up...an example, I will say "hey David, didn't we have such and such...", and he will look at me like I am crazy, and I realize that I either dreamed it up, or just literally made it up in my head! :)

3. I, like Haley, must change out of my clothes and shoes and into my pajamas as soon as I get home. I will literally go shower as soon as I set my purse down, get into my pj's, and then cook dinner...That way I can just relax and eventually crawl into bed without having to go through all the trouble of getting ready for bed when I am half asleep...

4. I love kids, and no matter where I am, I bend down to their level and talk to them face to face. I call all little girls "princess" and all little boys "handsome" without thinking and some of them do tend to get scared of me!

5. I get hungry every two hours and it is so crazy that I actually have bags of trail mix in my car so that I can feed my hunger at anytime. If I am hungry for too long I become a huge grouch...

6. When I asked David to come up with one quirky thing about me he said "you always have to be doing something!". I literally cannot sit at home on my day off...I have to have my whole day planned out and am constantly on the go. I get bored very easily, so keep myself going, which David is going to hate once we start having day's off together! :)

Christmas Day

Our first Christmas morning as a married couple! :) It was so nice to spend some time together, before getting together with the whole crazy family. I turned on the fake fireplace on TV (as you can see in the background of David's picture), and some Christmas music, and we exchanged gifts. It was pretty funny because we both got eachother the watches we had wanted, and David cheated on his gift (we had a limit since we are going to Park City in Feb.) by stuffing my stocking with the cutest letter and telling me he was also sending me to a day-at-the-spa! :) He is definitley an AMAZING husband!

**The puppies got stocking's too and pulled out the new toys immediatley! :) John, Sarah, and Spencer ended up coming over for breakfast so we had a big Christmas morning feast of orange cinnamon rolls, eggs, bacon, and toast! :)**

We spent Christmas day at my Dad's house and had the best time! We got to see his new barn where my Sister and Ryan are planning to have their reception, and it is amazing! The whole Owens' family came over, so it was nice to see them all.

We are officially married, as of 2 and 1/2 months ago, but as you probably understand, we have been extremely crazy since our big day!! :) Here are some of the pictures from our beautiful wedding, which could not have turned out more perfect!! At the end of this month we will officially be married. It has been 13 long months since we got engaged and we both cannot wait until it finally get's here! We are constantly asked if we are nervous or stressed, but we really have not experienced any of the nerves or waves of stress like most people have told us about...we are just SOOO excited!! :)

So, for the first ever entry to our blog I thought I would just start it out with the fact that we are now only 3 and a 1/2 months away from getting married. We got engaged on July 4th, 2007 in Maui, HI, and are planning to get married in San Diego, CA on August 31st, 2008. We have finished most of the planning...sent out invites that we are now just waiting to come back, our tasting, the flowers, the linens, our DJ, and so on...
One of the last major items is just our unknown last name to be. As many of you know, we are thinking of both changing our last name and creating a whole new name. However, there is still the possibility that we may take David's current last name. Everyone has been giving us there suggestions, which we are all pondering, but I have decided that it is up to David to make the final decision, since I was supposed to take his last name in the first place. So...whatever is announced when our pastor say's "and now pronouncing Mr. and Mrs...", will have ultitmatley been David's choice! :)
